Northwest A and F University History

Northwest A and F University were founded in 1999 by merging seven teaching and research institutions in Yangling, Province of Shaanxi, China. The largest of these is Northwest Agricultural University, then Northwest Forestry College, Soil and Water Conservation Institute, Northwest Water Resources Science Institute, Shaanxi Agricultural Science Academy, Shaanxi Provincial Forestry Academy, and Northwest Botany Institute. Yangling is known as Houji's birthplace, the God of Abundant Harvests, and legend tells people how to grow and harvest is there. NWAFU has played an important role in China's agricultural progress as the birthplace of Chinese agricultural civilization. Its strong point is agricultural research in arid and semi-arid regions, but its research achievements also extend to areas of agricultural biology such as wheat breeding, entomology, horticulture, food science, and forestry.

Northwest A and F University Programs, Courses and Schools

Northwest A and F University offer courses for both native and international students covering agriculture, forestry, engineering, natural science, medicine, management, and economy. Students can choose one college to register at different levels including Bachelor, Master, and PhD Governments and organizations student and scholarship are available to help students complete their studies. The university consists of 23 academic faculties, including the Institute of Water and Soil Conservation, and the Institute of Ideological and Political Education. These colleges, departments, and schools provide 3,000 courses for undergraduate studies.

Northwest A and F University Campuses

The urban area of the University is approximately 3.94 km, covering two main campuses: North Campus and South Campus. In addition, the Water and Soil Conservation Institute, the Food Science and Engineering College and the Water Resources and Architectural Engineering College have their own independent administrative and research campuses. South Campus hosts study and living facilities for senior graduates from Agriculture College, Horticultural College, Forestry College, Water Resources College, and Architectural Engineering, Resource and Environment College and Economics and Management College. All students from International School, most postgraduates, Department of Arts (Landscape Arts Design) undergraduates and all students from the College of Vocational and Adult Education also live and study at South Campus. Although North Campus is primarily for undergraduates from other colleges, some postgraduates are moving to North Campus for their research as they become students of the 2nd year. Agriculture Science Building, Social Science Building, new apartments as well as student facilities are currently under construction on the South Campus. In addition, A&F provides ferry students and staff with vehicles (small bus) on a daily schedule between South Campus and North Campus.
