Northwood University History

Arthur E. Turner and R. Gary Stauffer founded Northwood University in 1959 as Northwood Institute. The new school, which was initially housed in a 19th-century mansion in Alma, Michigan, enrolled one hundred students. In 1961, Northwood Institute relocated to Midland, Michigan. Northwood Institute was renamed Northwood University in 1993, and The DeVos Graduate School of Management was established.

Visas & immigration support

Northwood University's International Student Services Office (ISSO) is a critical component of the United States government's homeland computer security system known as SEVIS. The ISSO is led by the Campus Coordinator - USCIS Designated School Official, who is authorized by the Code of Federal Regulations to issue Form I-20 to qualified international students. All foreign student addresses, enrollment, health insurance, employment, and travel must be reported in real time to SEVIS by the ISSO. The ISSO assists international students in maintaining their F-1 student visa status.

Timberwolf Recreation Center provides sports and fitness services to Northwood University. Timberwolf Recreation's mission is to provide recreation services, programs, and facilities to the Northwood University community, with a focus on meeting student needs. Timberwolf Recreation strives to contribute to our users' physical, mental, and social development by providing programs and services in an environment that promotes diversity, healthy lifestyles, and productive leadership opportunities. A fitness centre outfitted with Cybex circuit strength-training pieces, free weights and training benches cross trainers, treadmills, Zero Runner, upright and recumbent bikes, and other cardio equipment. Televisions are also available at the Center. The Fitness Center staff is trained in the use of cardiovascular and strength equipment and can assist you with any questions you may have.

Part time jobs

Part-time employment is permitted for Northwood University students. The goal of Northwood University's student employment program is to help students meet their college expenses through employment while also providing real-world experience. Through the Student Employment Center, Northwood students can find part-time work both on and off campus. Student Employment prepares you for success. Students who work on campus or in the community have higher GPAs and graduation rates. As part of the Office of Financial Aid, the Student Employment Center is in charge of the program. When you are accepted to Northwood, you will also have access to a live job board with open positions: On-campus part-time employment (coordinated directly by the Student Employment Center)

Student Safety

Campus police and the safety department ensure the safety of Northwood University students. Officers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to student, faculty, and staff requests for assistance.

For medical emergencies, dial 911 immediately, then notify campus security of the nature and location of the emergency. The Director of Security supervises campus security officers, who are in charge of securing buildings and grounds, traffic regulations, and parking control. All campus policies and state laws are enforced by campus security personnel.
