The Ohio State University is a large, primarily residential public university located in Columbus, Ohio. OSU has five other satellite campuses across the state. Founded in 1870 as a land-grant university and ninth university in Ohio with the Morrill Act of 1862, the university was originally known as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College (Mech). It is the third largest university in the United States of America. Other than the main campus in Columbus the Ohio State University operates a regional campus system with regional campuses in Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark, and Wooster.

OSU offers more than 200 programs, as well as a Personalized Study Program where students can design a nontraditional education. The university comprises of various schools and colleges: School of Architecture, College of Arts and Sciences, Fisher College of Business, College of Engineering, Graduate School, College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, The John Glenn College of Public Affairs, Michael E Moritz College of Law, College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, College of Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Optometry, College of Pharmacy, College of Social Work and College of Veterinary Medicine. The most popular majors at Ohio State University-Columbus include: Psychology; Speech Communication and Rhetoric; Finance; Biology/Biological Sciences; and Marketing/Marketing Management.

The total student population at the university is more than 58,600 students of which over 45,200 students are enrolled in the undergraduate programs. The student to faculty ratio at the university is 19:1 and the acceptance rate is 49%.

The university offers hundreds of special-eligibility scholarships with a wide variety of eligibility criteria. At Ohio State University-Columbus, 46 percent of full-time undergraduates receive some kind of need-based financial aid. The university boasts one of the largest numbers of students studying abroad and offers more than 200 programs in over 50 countries.
