Osmania University History

Osmania University is a public state university located in the university town of Hyderabad, India, founded in 1918 with the help of the chief architect of Mahbub Ali Khan – Nawab Sarwar Jung. It was established and named after Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh and last Nizam of Hyderabad. It is Southern India's third oldest university and the first to be established in Hyderabad's former princely state.

The university offers courses in Humanities, Arts, Sciences, Social Sciences, Law, Engineering, Medicine, Technology, Business, Information Technology, and Oriental Languages. Admissions to the main campus Bachelor of Engineering, Masters and Doctoral programs are merit-based, evaluated for each of the courses offered by the national entrance exams.

Osmania University Campuses

The university has a campus of almost 1600 acres (6 km2) with 300,000 students making it one of India's largest higher education systems. Nearly 300,000 students in it are home to pursue their higher studies. Osmania employs nearly 5,000 faculties and staff. It attracts students from across the nation and abroad. The University Library is the university's main library and was founded together with the university in 1918. It has nearly 500,000 books and over 6,000 manuscripts. It also has different newspapers, government papers, etc. A library system is coordinated by the main library, which connects the libraries throughout the campus and other college libraries.

Osmania University Achievements

During IX Plan, which secured its position as one of the top 15 universities in the country, it achieved the status of a ' University with Potential for Excellence. ' The university has also received substantial grants from DBT, DST, and UGC to enhance the faculty's research infrastructure and capabilities in various multidisciplinary approach - focused thematic areas.

Osmania University's leading alumni include India's leading politicians, including 9th Indian Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao and 16th and last United Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Telangana Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, current CEO Adobe Systems Shantanu Narayen, and senior lawyer Subodh Markandeya.
