First Degree & Academic Background

Admission requires a relevant Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent. Some programmes allow preliminary admission if you have completed at least 150 ECTS credits and can demonstrate completion of remaining credits within your first Master’s semester. 

Language Requirements

German-language master’s programmes: Minimum C1 proficiency is mandatory.

English?taught Master’s programmes (e.g. Nanoscience, Physics, Cognitive Science): Require CEFR?B2 or equivalent proof of English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL) with at least B2–C1, depending on the course. 

Course-Specific Requirements

Some programmes impose selection interviews, field-specific prerequisites (e.g. professional experience or internships), or portfolio submissions for design/music degrees. Applicants should consult the admission regulations for their specific degree programme.

Applications & Deadlines

Master’s applications are submitted online via the university portal by deadlines that vary by programme:

For restricted admission programmes: May–July?15 (Winter start) or Nov–Jan?15 (Summer).

For open programmes: extended deadlines apply—typically May–Sept?1 (Winter) or Nov–Mar?1 (Summer).
