completing the university application :
International applicants for Bachelor’s programmes at Oulu UAS (Oamk) must hold a qualification that makes them eligible for higher education in their own country. Accepted qualifications typically include:
A high school diploma or equivalent secondary school certificate that qualifies for university entry in the applicant’s home country.
International credentials such as the International Baccalaureate (IB), European Baccalaureate (EB), Reifeprüfung (RP), Deutsche Internationale Abitur (DIA), or comparable secondary qualifications.
Vocational qualifications or higher degrees from recognised institutions may also count toward eligibility.
This eligibility is checked as part of the application process.
All international applicants must demonstrate strong English language skills. English proficiency is usually verified either through recognised language certificates (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) or evaluation within the entrance examination. Specific requirements vary by programme.
For Bachelor’s in Nursing, additional Finnish language proficiency is required (at least A2 level) and candidates take a separate online language test.

Also in 2024, Oamk presented its Partner of the Year Award to Proventia, recognising an outstanding long-term corporate collaboration that enhances student learning opportunities and strengthens innovation links between industry and education. As part of the FUAVE ecosystem project, a significant unmanned aerial system (UAS) test area has been developed around Oulu. Oamk participates alongside research partners like VTT and the University of Oulu to create a large testing ground for drones, supporting innovation in automated flight, drone swarms, traffic management and sensor technologies. This initiative helps translate research into practical applications and business development. Oamk runs a Smart and Sustainable Aviation research programme dedicated to drones and unmanned aerial systems (UAS). The work includes advancing business solutions, research projects and education in drone applications for logistics, safety, cybersecurity and agriculture. Oamk supports this with the Arctic Drone Labs (ADL) research centre and one of Northern Finland’s larger drone fleets, positioning the university as a key contributor to UAS innovation in challenging environments.
Oamk’s Autonomous Work Machines Research Programme focuses on developing zero-emission, autonomous industrial and off-road machinery, replacing traditional internal-combustion powertrains with electric and hybrid systems. A key facility in this work is NUVE-LAB, a development environment that links physical test machines with virtual simulation, enabling fast, safe and cost-effective prototyping and testing of sustainable heavy-equipment technologies.
