Pepperdine University History

The George Pepperdine College was founded on September 21, 1937 by an entrepreneur George Pepperdine. In November, 1937 the college welcomed its first set of students. The Pepperdine College’s first campus was located in the Vermont Knolls area, Los Angeles which was spread over 34-acres of area.
In 1969, the School of Business and College of Law were established. Pepperdine College was declared as Pepperdine University on January 1,1971. At the same time the College of Arts, Letters and Sciences and School of Continuing Education were formed at Los Angeles campus.
From 1985-2000 Pepperdine University was under the guidance of President Davenport. In the 1990s a new Graduate School and (SPP) School of Public Policy were founded which offered Master of Public Policy degrees.
Andrew K. Benton was named seventh President of Pepperdine University. In 2002, the Military Honor Garden Was established in Stauffer Chapel Plaza and in 2003 Heroes Garden on the Drescher Graduate campus was constructed.
Over eight decades of the Pepperdine University many changes took place in school, policy, infrastructure and curriculum but the institute is endowed towards helping young men and women to prepare their future in this competitive era.

Its main campus is located in Malibu, California and four Graduate Campuses are located in Southern California are in West Los Angeles, Irvine, Encino and San Jose, one of its centers is located in Washington D.C. and International Campuses are located in Germany, Argentina, UK, Italy and Switzerland.

Campus-

Pepperdine University has five schools or colleges which offer a wide variety of courses to the students. Its main campus is located in Malibu, California and four Graduate Campuses are located in Southern California are in West Los Angeles, Irvine, Encino and San Jose, one of its center is located in Washington D.C. and International Campuses are located in Germany, Argentina, UK, Italy and Switzerland.

Libraries-

Pepperdine University Libraries serves the learning students by facilitating exploration, discovery, and creativity. The library has a wide collection of knowledgeable material. The location of different libraries at the university are- Payson Library, Drescher Graduate Library, Encino Library, Irvine Library, West Los Angeles Library, Calabasas Library and Law Library. The Pepperdine University Libraries' collection has more than 2 million items and access to 128 electronic databases with more than 66,000 journals and more than 350,000 e-books which makes it easy for the students to study on campus.

Housing Services-

The Pepperdine University Housing services offers students to enhance the learning experience by living in safe, caring, respectful, and dynamic on-campus housing. Living on campus is the best option for students to fully experience college life. The on-campus experience facilitates students both convenience and a sense of community, and provides students more student and faculty interaction, enhances learning and academic, social, and spiritual growth.

Medical Services-

The Student Health Center (SHC) is present in the Student Assistance Center (SAC), near the Center for Communications and Business (CCB). The SHC works similarly to a family physician’s office and facilitates with the latest in health standards, allowing students to get care from highly trained medical professionals on campus only. Students who are too sick or injured can use the campus shuttle or they can contact the Department of Public Safety at 310-506-4442 to receive a free medical escort service.
Many services are available which includes a wide range of everyday health needs, men's and women's health, care for illness and injury, immunizations, injections, labs, nutrition, respiratory problems, and dermatology related. The SHC also provides specialized clinics for flu vaccination, travel medicine, massage therapy, and STI/HIV testing. If needed physicians may refer to a specialist or acknowledge if a higher level of care is required.
The doctors provide prescribed medications with their treatment plans. The has an in-house dispensary, which gives easy access to common medications. A written prescription will be given for any medication not available at the SHC. Students have to schedule an appointment through their patient portal or by calling 310-506-4316.

Pepperdine Bookstore- With campus bookstore, university also has an online Pepperdine bookstore. It makes purchasing textbooks, course materials, office and school supplies, as well as Pepperdine-themed apparel and accessories easy.

 Pepperdine University’s Department of Campus Recreation is a unit of the Division of Student Affairs of Seaver College. The programs and services of the department include: Club Sports, Esports, Fitness and Wellbeing, Informal Recreation, Outdoor Recreation, and Special Events and Excursions. The variety of sport and fitness activities and recreational facilities provide opportunities for individuals to participate according to their level of ability. This huge variety of sports and activities also keeps them fit and healthy.
 

Residential Life-

The Pepperdine University Housing services offers students to enhance the learning experience by living in a safe, caring, respectful, and dynamic on-campus community. Living on campus is the best option for students to fully experience college life. The on-campus experience facilitates students both convenience and a sense of community, and provides students more student and faculty interaction, enhances learning and academic, social, and spiritual growth.

Food and Drinks-

There are many restaurants nearby campus which provide delivery facilities also. They are just a few steps away from the campus. Students can enjoy delicious food at doorsteps or can dine in at the restaurant. Some restaurants are- De-Lite-Ful, Buca di Beppo, Cafe Habana, Mastros, Cheesecake Factory, Chipotle and many other options are available nearby the university campus.

Short-term Getaways-

There are many short-term getaways near the university to have fun like; Frederick Weisman Museum of Art, Malibu Bluffs Park, Malibu Wine Hikes, Malibu Wine Hikes, Malibu Lagoon State Beach and many other options are available nearby to enjoy weekends and holidays.


Part Time Jobs-

Every year over two thousand students among all five Southern California campuses engage in some type of student job support. The Student Employment Office works as a pillar of support for the students as they take on the challenge of managing academics, employment, and life at Pepperdine University. The Student Employment Office (SEO) engages with the faculty and staff of all University departments and the local people to provide part-time employment opportunities to students. SEO also works with the Federal Work Study Program and the Pepperdine Work Program University-wide to support more students as they want jobs while pursuing their study at the university.

Student Safety-

 Students of Pepperdine University are encouraged to communicate safety concerns and report incidents of misconduct. Students may submit a concern with or without their contact information. Students can also connect to 911 and the Public Safety Department using the LiveSafe App available at the Apple App Store & Google Play. Using the LiveSafe App allows Public Safety to exactly locate an individual in case of an emergency.
