Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences operates across two modern campuses in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort. The Kleve Campus is located at Marie-Curie-Straße 1, 47533 Kleve, and the Kamp-Lintfort Campus at Friedrich-Heinrich-Allee 25, 47475 Kamp-Lintfort. The campuses feature state-of-the-art classrooms and lecture halls, libraries, language courses, canteens and residence halls. The university offers flexible modes of study – full-time, part-time or dual-vocational – providing opportunities to earn a bachelor's or master's degree for diverse groups of people. The university has approximately 550 employees, of whom 46% are women and 54% are men. The institution maintains 94 partner universities in 36 countries. The university's infrastructure supports interdisciplinary applied research and a meaningful transfer of knowledge and experience in both teaching and research through close cooperation with industry in Germany and abroad, from small and medium sized enterprises to large multinational corporations.

Student Support

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences provides a wide range of social and academic advising services for students. All support services are provided at no additional charge. The Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB), the Study Guides for each faculty and the Social Services Department of the Studierendenwerk offer comprehensive support. Study Guides are staff members within the faculties who help students with questions relating to their study and graduation progression. The Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf provides advice and support to students with social, private or financial problems affecting their studies, with regular consultation hours offered at both campus locations. The university offers free services for substance abuse, prenatal support, debt counselling or immigration counselling. The Equal Opportunity Office and Family Service provide additional support. For international students, the Welcome Centre and qualified student tutors help with social and cultural issues. Support is also available for students with children, students with disabilities or chronic illnesses, and victims of violence, including financial advice and loans. International students receive help with visa issues, insurance, and discrimination matters. Psychological counselling service offers individual support.

Student Life

Student life at Rhine-Waal University is vibrant and diverse, with over 120 different nationalities represented on campus. Students don't just receive a first-rate education; they also get two brand-new campuses, state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and highly motivated, transnational professors and teaching staff. The university provides continuous support both in and out of the classroom so that students can more easily adjust to student life and life in Germany in general. There are dozens of active sport clubs and leisure time activities at little to no charge. The university offers many different leisure time activities for students, including sports and athletics, music programmes and various groups. The Students4students tutors at the Welcome Centre give helpful tips and information for degree programmes, and assist with daily issues outside of studies, like applying for student visas or contacting authorities. For fans of live music and nightlife, Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort offer privately-run clubs, and the nearby major cities of Nijmegen, Cologne, Düsseldorf, Duisburg and Oberhausen are home to many other options. Students receive a Semester Ticket with their biannual semester enrolment fee, which is a pass to ride on nearly all bus and train lines in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The university also offers a Studium Generale and Wednesday Academy offerings. A rich, intercultural exchange occurs every day on the campuses and in the halls, with no shortage of fun, interesting people to meet and communicate with even without speaking German.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences does not maintain residence halls and therefore cannot guarantee accommodation for students. Students in Germany have to find accommodation themselves, meaning that a room will not automatically be assigned after enrolling at the university. Two types of accommodation are common in Germany: a room at a student residence hall or private accommodation. The majority of students in Germany rent rooms in private flats. With regard to private accommodation, various types are possible: students can rent a room, a flat or share a flat with fellow students. Flats and rooms are usually not furnished, though some are fully or partly furnished but generally more expensive. In Germany, rent is usually divided into two parts: 'cold' (kalt) and 'warm'. Cold refers to the base rent without other expenses, while warm refers to the full cost including base rent and most other expenses like hot water and refuse collection. Generally, students must pay one to three months' rent in advance as a security deposit ('Kaution'). The university strongly recommends that students start looking for accommodation as early as possible, ideally before arriving in Germany. The Welcome Centre publishes flat offers from landlords. Students are advised not to limit their search to the direct vicinity of either campus but to take nearby cities and villages into account, particularly those along train and bus routes, as the SemesterTicket allows commuting at no extra cost. The Studierendenwerk Düsseldorf runs residence halls in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort with affordable rooms for students.

Student Safety

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is committed to creating a safe, non-discriminatory and respectful environment for all students. The university does not tolerate discrimination, aggressive behaviour and sexual violence, and has created prevention structures to make university activities a trusting, non-discriminatory, respectful and safe space for everyone. The university promotes the values of tolerance, respect and sustainability in acknowledgement of social responsibility and function as a role model. Equality, inclusion and tolerance are core principles for the university. Students and guests may access laboratories only for the purposes of participating in a practical course or conducting research for an official assignment in their degree programme and after receiving proper safety instruction. No pets are allowed on the premises of the university. Employees and students are obliged to lock rooms whenever they leave. For safety reasons, users are not permitted to lock carrel doors from the inside. The university has established disciplinary procedures for violations. The university offers support for victims of violence through its social services. Emergency numbers and safety information are available through the university. Students with disabilities or chronic illnesses receive special support and accommodations.

Career Support

Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences provides comprehensive career support through its Career Service, which acts as a bridge builder between students, graduates, the university, and companies and organisations from industry, science and social sectors. The Central Career Service, together with the Förderverein Hochschule Rhein-Waal e.V., organises the career fair "Speed-Dating – Unternehmen treffen Studierende" and maintains a job portal on Moodle. Students can browse current job ads for internships, thesis projects, entry-level positions, part-time jobs, career fairs and more on the Moodle job portal. The Faculty of Society and Economics has its own internal Career Service offering individual career advising, support with the job application process in Germany, career events and more. The university continuously builds up a network of business contacts. Through the internal job portal (accessible only by Rhine-Waal students), organisations can advertise internship opportunities, entry-level positions, thesis opportunities, scholarships, part-time jobs and career expos at no charge. Career Service offers workshops and presentations on career-related topics, career talks providing practical insights into the working environment, and trainings and events. The university's many cooperative agreements with leading international businesses and research institutions greatly enhance internship and employment opportunities. Students receive support with professional orientation, application documents, and job interview preparation. The Career Service supports students with their entry into the working world.
