What platforms will I use as a student for schedules, grades, and email?

Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences uses several key digital platforms. HINT is the main portal where you can find your schedule, teacher contacts, and university notifications. From HINT, you can access Osiris to view your grades and academic progress, and the LMS (Learning Management System) to find course materials and submit assignments. Your student email is managed through Outlook, which also provides you with free access to Microsoft Office programs

What is the language of instruction at the university?

While the official language of instruction for most programmes is Dutch, the university has "international classrooms." This means that whenever international students are present in a course, teachers will speak English. For specific English-taught bachelor's and master's programmes, the language of instruction is entirely English. It is still recommended that international students learn some basic Dutch for daily life outside of university

How do I apply to a programme at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences?

The application process begins by submitting an enrolment request through the Dutch national system, Studielink (www.studielink.nl). When doing so, you must select 'Hogeschool Rotterdam' or 'Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.' Within five working days, you will receive a student number via email. With this number, you must then complete a separate, programme-specific application form (for example, through the Willem de Kooning Academy website for art programmes). Your application is only complete after you have registered on both platforms

What are the English language proficiency requirements for admission?

For most English-taught bachelor's programmes, the required scores are an IELTS Academic score of 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 80. For some preparatory or master's programmes, the requirements may be higher, such as an IELTS of 6.5 or a TOEFL iBT of 90. Please note that online or "home edition" tests are generally not accepted; the test must be taken at an official test centre. You may be exempt if you have completed previous education in English in specific countries like the UK, USA, or Australia

What scholarships are available for international Bachelor's students at Willem de Kooning Academy?

The Holland Scholarship is available for non-EEA national applying for bachelor's programmes at the Willem de Kooning Academy. This is a one-time grant of €5,000, awarded in the first year of studies. Students are automatically considered for this scholarship when they apply for an eligible programme, provided they meet the admission requirements, including English proficiency (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80)

Are there scholarships available for international Master's students?

Yes, the Orange Tulish Scholarship (OTS) is available for highly motivated students from India applying for specific master's programmes at Rotterdam Business School or Rotterdam Mainport Institute. This scholarship offers a one-time grant of €3,000 for the duration of the studies. It requires a separate application, including a motivation letter, CV, and a letter of recommendation. Selected students are also expected to represent the university as part of the Master's PR team for one academic year

Does the university offer housing assistance for international students?

Yes, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences helps international students by offering access to reserved short-stay accommodations through the housing provider SSH. These are furnished rooms in buildings like Hatta and Erasmus International House, where you share a kitchen and bathroom, with rental prices ranging from approximately €475 to €800 per month. However, there are not enough rooms for all international students, and rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis via an online booking platform with specific opening dates

What should I do if I can't get a room through the university's reserved SSH housing?

It is crucial to start looking for accommodation on the private market immediately, as the university advises you not to wait for the SSH registration process. You can explore alternative housing providers listed on the university website. It is important to be aware that finding housing in Rotterdam can be very competitive, and you should be cautious of housing scams

I am a non-EU student. When should I apply for my visa?

The application deadlines for non-EU applicants are much earlier than for EU students to allow time for visa processing. For a September intake, non-EU students generally need to apply by the 1st of April. For a February intake, the deadline is usually the 1st of October. You must have been accepted into a programme and meet all admission requirements before the university can sponsor your visa application

What are the options for staying in the Netherlands after graduation to find a job?

After graduating, non-EU students can apply for a "zoekjaar" or "Orientation Year for Highly Educated Persons" residence permit. This allows you to stay in the Netherlands for one year to look for a job or start a business. During this year, you are free to work without needing an additional work permit, making it easier to find an employer to sponsor a subsequent work visa.
