Everything You Need to Know About Application Requirements at Saint Marys University

Applicants must hold a recognized bachelor’s degree (typically a 4-year degree, or equivalent) by the time of enrollment. 

Academic performance: many programs require a minimum GPA (for example, the MAHSR program requires GPA ≈ 3.3 on a 4.3 scale). 

Official transcripts for all postsecondary study, including graded scales. Unofficial transcripts may initially be accepted for evaluation, but official ones are required for final admission. 

Recommendation letters: typically three (3) referees are required (at least two academic references). 

CV / Resume is required. 

Statement of interest / research proposal / writing sample may be required in certain programs. 

English language proficiency: for non-native English speakers, SMU requires proof of English skills. 

For MBA programs, minimums are higher (e.g. TOEFL iBT ≥ 100 or IELTS ≥ 7.0) 

 

Some graduate programs have program-specific prerequisites (e.g. in economics, statistics, or advanced theory). 

Application deadlines: most graduate programs recommend submission before February 1 (unless otherwise stated).
