Sam Houston State University History

Sam Houston State University's history started in the year 1879 with the legislation signed by Oran M. Roberts. It was the first teacher training school in the southwestern United States. University is known as Sam Houston Normal Institute till 1923, Sam Houston State Teachers College till 1965, and Sam Houston State College till the year 1969. After 1969 it was renamed Sam Houston State University.
