San Jose State University 

San Jose State University usually referred to as SJSU, is a renowned public university in the United States and is located in San Jose, California. As the first campus of the California State University system and the oldest public university on the West Coast, San Jose State University (SJSU) was founded in 1857.

San Jose State University History

The Minns Evening Normal School in San Francisco, which is where San José State University is now located, was first founded in 1857. George W. Minns was its founder. Minns Evening Normal School changed its name to California State Normal School in 1862 as a result of a law passed by the California assembly, and 54 women completed its three-year curriculum. In 1871, the school finally relocated to San Jose, where it was given Washington Square Park at S. 4th and San Carlos Streets, where it is still located today. The school's name was changed to San José State University by a resolution of the California legislature in 1974.

San Jose State University Programs, Courses and Schools

San José State University provides 38 certificates, 143 bachelor's degree programs, 95 master's degree programs, and 11 distinct credential programs as of fall 2021. As of 2021, the institution also provides three separate doctoral degree programs and one collaborative doctoral degree program. Starting in the spring of 2023, SJSU will start to grant a fifth PhD degree. The Western Association of Schools and Colleges has granted SJSU accreditation.

With more than 5,600 undergraduate and graduate students as of fall 2019, the university's Lucas College and Graduate School of Business was the third-largest college at SJSU. Less than 5% of business programs worldwide have achieved the distinction of being accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) International at both the graduate and undergraduate levels, including the Lucas College and Graduate School of Business.   The main campus of San Jose State University is made up of about 55 buildings and is set on a 154-acre (62.3 ha) plot of land in the heart of San Jose. San Fernando Street to the north, San Salvador Street to the south, S. 4th Street to the west, and S. 10th Street to the east all about the university. About 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) south of the main campus on S. 7th Street is the south campus, which houses many of the school’s, sporting facilities. San Jose State University's campus offers a variety of amenities in addition to this, including a renowned library, a building for the students union, a health and wellness center, sporting venues, a cafe, and more.

San Jose State University Libraries

    As the primary library for both San José State University and the San José Public Library system, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library is a joint venture between the City of San José and San José State University. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Library sometimes referred to as the MLK Library or the King Library in the neighborhood is a university and public library with eight stories that is situated in the heart of San Jose, California. It opened on August 16, 2003. With more than 475,000 square feet (44,000 m2) of space across eight levels and roughly 1.6 million books, as of 2018, it is the largest library building in the western United States to have been erected in a single construction project. For its collaborative blending of the two services as well as for the building, it was recognized as the Library of the Year in 2004 by Library Journal and Thomson Gale. It was still the largest cooperative university-municipal library in the country when it celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2013.

In the Student Wellness Center (SWC) building, across from the Event Center, is where you'll find the student health centre at San Jose State University.
