The Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies' Main Campus is housed inside the former convent of Sant'Anna, a Benedictine nunnery that dates back to the thirteenth century but was suppressed in 1786 on Pietro Leopoldo of Lorraine's order. The structure still has important remnants of its history. For example, visitors may view large remnants of paintings and a 13th-century column on the walls of the cloister, which is surrounded by classrooms, offices, and social areas. The Main Campus, in the center of the school's operations, is surrounded by greenery and has a view of Piazza Martiri della Libertà, also called Piazza Santa Caterina by the locals, which is dominated by the monument of Pietro Leopoldo from the eighteenth century.
