Vera Eory is a British-Hungarian researcher on climate change at Scotland's Rural College (United Kingdom). With an emphasis on farm and policy elements of greenhouse gas reduction, she carries out multidisciplinary research to enhance the sustainability of agricultural production. Vera Eory has more than a decade of expertise with the economic and environmental effects of greenhouse gas reduction strategies in agriculture, including the development of policy tools, the cost-effectiveness of mitigation strategies, environmental co-effects, and farmers' perspectives. Emma Baxter is a research scientist at Scotland's Rural College (SRUC). She is interested in integrated pig science and has experience in animal behaviour and welfare. She studied survival in a variety of indoor and outdoor farrowing systems as part of her PhD research on the behavioural and physiological markers of piglet survival. She is currently working on a number of projects that include building loose-farrowing systems, assisting and keeping an eye on commercial adoption, compiling data on free farrowing onto a web-based platform (www.freefarrowing.org), and collecting on-farm information about choosing suitable sows for loose farrowing. She is also working on studies that examine alternate humane stunning techniques for pigs and automated identification of impending outbreaks of tail-biting. View Less
