Seattle University History
Seattle University’s history started in the year 1891 when Ardrian Swweere, S.J. seized a small area near Seattle. In the initial stages, the college did not offer higher education. After 1898 it was renamed Seattle College and began its bachelor’s programs. In 1931, when admitting women was a big challenge, the college opened a Night School for Women. It was renamed Seattle University in 1948.
