Colombia’s first satellite, Libertad 1, is a 1U CubeSat (~10×10×10 cm) built by students and faculty from the university’s Space Program (Observatorio Astronómico and School of Exact Sciences & Engineering). Launched aboard a Dnepr rocket from Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 17, 2007, it transmitted telemetry data (orbital parameters, temperature) over two years—far surpassing its expected 50-day lifespan—making it a pioneering national achievement .
