Established in 1960, SUIBE was originally known as the Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade. In 1994, it transitioned to the administration of the Shanghai Municipal Government and was renamed in 2013 to its current title. The university has a strong focus on international business and economics, offering a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs
SUIBE hosts over 14,000 students, including more than 2,000 international students from various countries. The university employs approximately 1,500 academic staff, with a significant number holding professorial positions.
SUIBE operates three campuses located in Songjiang, Changning, and Minhang districts of Shanghai. The Songjiang campus is the primary location, situated within the Songjiang University Town, a hub for higher education institutions
