Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
A strong undergraduate academic record is expected.
Some graduate programs may require standardized exams (e.g. GRE) — though not all; applicants should check with the specific program.
Required application materials generally include:
• Official transcripts from all postsecondary institutions attended
• Resume or curriculum vitae
• Statement of purpose or objectives for graduate study
• Writing sample or substantial academic paper for certain programs
Some specific graduate programs (e.g. Master of Arts in Teaching — MAT) have additional requirements: a $60 application fee, letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.
Graduate / special program applications are managed through Smith’s Graduate & Special Programs portal.
Deadlines vary by department / program. For example, biology graduate program has a deadline of January 15 for submitting all required materials.
For the School for Social Work’s PhD program, candidates must hold a Master’s degree already.
