Solent University History

Solent University is a British public university located in Southampton, England. The university was established as Southampton College of Art in 1856 and was subsequently merged with College of Nautical Studies and Southampton College of Technology to form Southampton Institute of Higher Education. It was conferred university status in 2005 adopting the name Southampton Solent University. In 2018, it adopted its present name and currently enrols over 9900 students.

The campus is located close to the Southampton Train Station which directly connects it to London Waterloo station in the heart of London. Solent University’s Careers and Employability Service called the Solent Futures assists students with finding part-time work in retail, hospitality, catering, care, leisure and tourism in the city. Students are allowed to work 20 hours per week during the term time and 40 hours per week during the holidays.
