In 1940, Annraoi de Paor was born in Waterford. He completed his engineering studies at UCD in 1961. In 1963, he received an MS from the University of California, Berkeley, and in 1967, he received a PhD from UCD. He started teaching control theory at Salford in 1969, then in 1978 he went back to UCD to teach electrical engineering. In addition to pursuing interests in biomedical engineering and renewable energy, he became a globally recognized authority on control theory. He established the Rehabilitation Engineering Laboratory at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire and was a trailblazing biomedical engineer in Irish academia. View Less
