Applicants must submit a completed application, which includes:

  • Official high school transcript(s) showing coursework and grades. 

  • Two (2) teacher or counselor recommendation letters. 

  • A personal essay / written work. 

  • Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT) — optional, thanks to a test-optional policy. 

Academic / course prerequisites:

  • 4 units of English 

  • 3 units of Math 

  • 3 units of science (at least two different areas, with lab experiences) 

  • 3 units of history or social sciences 

  • 2 units of foreign (world) language 

Holistic Review: SMCM uses a holistic review process that considers the rigor of high school curriculum, personal essays, extracurriculars, recommendations, and academic potential. 

Application deadlines & details:

  • Regular application deadline is January 15. 

  • Early Decision / Early Action options exist. 

  • Application fee of $50. 

Test-optional policy:

  • Since Fall 2021, SMCM allows most applicants to choose whether to submit SAT or ACT scores.
