In 1883, Stetson University was founded by Henry Addison Deland as a DeLand Academy. In 1889, the university was renamed John B. Stetson University in honor of the well-known hat manufacturer who donated to Stetson. John B. Stetson was a benefactor of the university and worked with Henry A.
