SUNY Downstate Medical Center History

SUNY Downstate Medical Center was founded in the year 1858 but it started with its classes in the year 1860. Initially, there were only 57 students who got admitted. In the beginning, it was known as the Long Island College Hospital and in 1857, it changed its name to St. John's Hospital. In 1945, the State University of New York and Long Island College Hospital had an agreement to merge and after that it came to known by SUNY Downstate Medical Center. The medical center over the years grew and expanded with more buildings and courses.

On-Campus: The accommodation available for the students willing to stay on campus are studio apartments and two-bedroom apartments. Studio apartments consists of: twin size bed, desk, dresser, closet, and floor lamp. There is compact kitchen and private bathroom. The two-bedroom apartment consists of: bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, closet, and floor lamp. It also has a kitchen, dining table and private bath.

Visa and Immigration Support

International students applying to SUNY Downstate Medical Center are eligible for both F1 and J1 Visa depending on the course they have applied.
