What is the difference between a University of Applied Sciences (UAS) and a traditional university in Finland?

The Finnish higher education system has two parallel sectors. Universities focus on scientific research and theoretical education. Universities of Applied Sciences, like TAMK, offer a more pragmatic education that is closely connected to working life needs, emphasizing a "learning-by-doing" approach

Is TAMK a large university?

TAMK is one of the largest and most popular universities of applied sciences in Finland. It has nearly 12,000 students and a strong international dimension, with over 450 international exchange students .

What are the English language requirements for Bachelor's programmes?

The required scores vary by programme. For most programmes, the minimum requirements are an overall IELTS score of 6.0 or a TOEFL iBT score of 60. Some programmes, like Media and Arts, do not require a separate certificate as language skills are tested during the admissions process .

Can I apply with SAT scores, and what is TAMK's institution code?

Yes, for some Bachelor's programmes like Software Engineering, admission is possible through SAT test scores. Applicants must ensure their SAT score is sent directly to TAMK from the College Board. The institution code for TAMK is 6960

Is TAMK tuition-free for all students?

No, TAMK is not tuition-free for all students. Tuition fees apply to students who are citizens of countries outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA). The tuition fee is €12,000 per academic year for Bachelor's and Master's degrees taught in English

What scholarships are available for fee-paying students?

TAMK offers scholarship waivers. For new Bachelor's students, there is an Early Bird scholarship which provides a 50% waiver on the first year's tuition fee if the study place is accepted and the first installment is paid within 14 days of the offer. For continuing Bachelor's students, an Academic Award scholarship (25% or 50% waiver) is available based on completing 60 credits per academic year

When should I apply for my residence permit?

You should start the immigration process immediately after accepting your study place, as the study permit application process can take several months. You can begin the process online at the Enter Finland service

If I get a job after graduation, can I stay in Finland?

Tampere Universities have a programme called "Study & Stay" designed to support international students in studying, living, and working or starting a business in the Tampere area after graduation. This is a collaboration between the universities' Career Services and the City of Tampere .
