Texas A & M Health Science Center was founded in 1999 as an independent institution of the Texas A&M University System, and it received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in December 2002 to grant baccalaureate, master's, doctoral, and professional degrees. On July 12, 2013, the institution merged with Texas A&M University.
