When does the next academic year start at THUAS?

New cohorts for most programmes start each year at the end of August or on 1 September. This is the official start date of the new academic year, and your programme will kick off around this time. In some cases, programmes may allow you to start later with an interim registration, but this is not possible for non-EU students or those with a residence permit for study

How does a Master's at a University of Applied Sciences differ from a Research University?

A Master's programme at a University of Applied Sciences (like THUAS) is vocationally based, meaning you apply what you learn directly in a professional context through applied research assignments, often tied to your workplace. Class sizes are typically small. In contrast, a Master's at a research university focuses on academic research that is more distant from daily practice and often involves large lecture halls

What are the main steps and deadlines for applying as a non-EU student?

First, you register through the Dutch national system, Studielink. After receiving your student number, you complete your application in THUAS' Osiris system and upload required documents (diploma, transcripts, English test score, passport copy). The key deadlines are: 1 May for applications, 15 June for submitting a complete set of documents and paying the package fee, and 31 August to meet all admission requirements

What are the options if my English test score is not sufficient?

If your English test score is below the required level (e.g., IELTS 6.0), you can contact the Academic Preparation Course (PREP school) at THUAS. This programme helps you acquire the necessary English proficiency and study skills. You can choose between a one-year course starting in September or a six-month course starting in February .

What is the NL Scholarship and who can apply for it?

The NL Scholarship is a €5,000 grant financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education for non-EU/EEA students applying for a full-time Bachelor's or Master's programme. To qualify, you must not have studied in the Netherlands before, be paying the institutional tuition fee, and have been conditionally accepted by 1 June 2026. The application involves submitting an essay

What is the essay assignment for the NL Scholarship?

The essay must be 950-1100 words on the topic: "The Hague University of Applied Sciences brings together students from over 140 nationalities. Share an experience where working with people from different backgrounds challenged or broadened your perspective. How will you use this understanding to enrich our multicultural learning environment?" The use of AI tools like ChatGPT is not permitted .

Can I stay in the Netherlands after I graduate to look for a job?

Yes, after graduating from a THUAS Master's programme, you can apply for an Orientation Year Visa (Zoekjaar) . This allows you to stay in the Netherlands for one year to find a job or internship. If you secure a job within that year, you can obtain a work permit and seek permanent residence after five years

As a non-EU student, what is the 'package fee' and why is it required?

If THUAS needs to apply for your residence permit, you must transfer a €26,000 package fee before 15 June. This is a legal requirement to prove you have sufficient financial means. The fee covers your first-year tuition, legal fees for the permit, and one year's health insurance. The remaining amount is refunded to you after you arrive and open a Dutch bank account
