Frequently Asked Questions

NIDA has one main intake per year, with the academic year starting in February each year. Higher Education courses run across two main semesters (February–June and July–November), while Vocational Studies courses follow a three-term structure (February–April, late April–early July, and late July–early October).
Yes, you can apply for multiple courses, but a separate online application is required for each course. Entry to NIDA is based on your demonstrated ability and creative potential, and assessment may include auditions, interviews, portfolio submissions, or other course-specific assessments. ATARs or other academic results are not considered.
Applications typically open in May/June each year for the following year's intake and close in mid to late September, depending on the course you are applying for. After the application deadline, all applications will be reviewed and you will receive an email advising the result of your application in Round One, around October/November.
NIDA does not have on-campus accommodation for students, and students are responsible for arranging their own accommodation. However, although NIDA is not part of the University of New South Wales (UNSW), NIDA students can access the student accommodation at UNSW, which is located directly across from NIDA on Anzac Parade, Kensington, and has a number of on-campus residential colleges and self-catered apartments.
Students tend to look for accommodation in suburbs near NIDA such as Randwick, Kensington, Kingsford, Eastlakes, Zetland, Waterloo, Rosebery, Redfern, Centennial Park, Coogee and Maroubra or, slightly further away, in Newtown, Surry Hills, Darlinghurst, or Paddington, because of proximity and transport services. Rental accommodation in the immediate vicinity of NIDA is not usually easy to find at short notice, can be expensive and landlords usually require a minimum six month lease to be signed.
