The University of Akron History
The University of Akron is a public research university located in Ohio, United States. The university plays a role in the University System of Ohio. When the university opened in 1872 it was a single-building campus, which is now known as "Old Buchtel. The college discharges its Universalist affiliation and became a non-denominational institution, in order to be able to receive funds from the Carnegie Foundation, which would not give funds to religiously affiliated schools in 1907.

The University of Akron offers about 200 undergraduate and more than 105 graduate majors to approximately 4,000 graduate students and comprises of 12 colleges, schools, and campuses.

The University of Akron consists of three campuses such as Wayne College in Orrville, the Medina County University Center, in Lafayette Township, and UA Lakewood, in the Cleveland suburb of Lakewood, Ohio. The University campus is made up of 82 buildings on 222 acres near downtown Akron.

University of Akron students benefits from thousands of scholarships and awards that is more than $32 million each year in scholarships for college students and graduate students. The Scholarships and grants range from hundreds of dollars to complete, full-ride academic scholarships. The University aims to address the financial needs of as many students as possible. By setting a per-student scholarship maximum, or scholarship cap, these scholarships help more students achieve their goals by distributing scholarships broadly to a greater number of students.
