The Third Faculty of Medicine Charles University conferred its teaching degrees to many outstanding personalities in the last three years, among the most prominent were: Prof. Zdeněk Neubauer in biology, Doc. Ivan M. Havel in artificial intelligence, and Prof. Luboslav Stárka in endocrinology. Numerous lectures by renowned foreign experts were held on the Faculty's grounds at the same time. Let's at least mention the renowned psychiatrist Prof. P. Grof, the Nobel Prize winner in neurophysiology Prof. J. Prof. James Watson, a Nobel Prize winner and one of the discoverers of DNA, received an honorary doctorate from the Third Faculty of Medicine. Likewise, on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of the Charles University foundation, we suggested that another Nobel Prize winner, a world–wide known neurophysiologist, Professor Huxley from Great Britain, be also awarded a honorary doctorate in 1998.

Notable Innovation, Research & Development Third Faculty of Medicine Charles University

The Third Faculty of Medicine at Charles University, together with FNKV (University Hospital Královské Vinohrady), is recognized for its progress in cardiovascular studies, nutrition, diabetology, and oncology. Notable achievements consist of creating contemporary, proactive rehabilitation techniques for myocardial infarction patients, removing the necessity for prolonged bed rest, and progressive, research-oriented traumatology. The faculty emphasizes the advancement of scientific research and its relationship to medical practice in addition to its own instructional approach. Cardiovascular, diabetes and nutrition, cancer, neuroscience, and traumatology research were among its most prominent achievements (including several prestigious international prizes). Today's myocardial infarction patients would be confined to bed rest for several weeks as they waited for a stable scar to form in the injured muscle tissue if it weren't for the 3FM CU and the FNKV.
