Can I start my studies only in September, or are there other intake moments?

No, enrolment at Tio is also possible in January. The upcoming intakes are scheduled for 5 January 2026, 31 August 2026, 4 January 2027, and 6 September 2027

Is there an age limit to apply for a programme at Tio?

Tio does not have an age restriction. As long as you meet the academic requirements, you are welcome to apply. Most students are between the ages of 16 and 30 .

What is the application deadline if I need a visa?

For students who require a visa to study in the Netherlands, the application deadline for the September intake is the 15th of June, and for the January intake, it is the 15th of October .

How can I be sure that I meet the admission requirements for an English-taught programme?

If you are unsure whether you meet the requirements, you can send documentation of your previous and current education to Tio's admissions office at [email protected], including a copy of your passport. Your documents will be evaluated, and you will be notified of the assessment within two weeks

What scholarships does Tio offer for international students?

Tio offers two scholarships for non-Dutch students. The Tio Super Talent Scholarship covers 50% of the tuition fee, requiring outstanding study results and an IELTS score of 7.0 or higher. The Tio Talent Scholarship covers 25% of the tuition fee, requiring above-average results and an IELTS score of 6.5 or higher

How do I apply for a Tio scholarship, and what is the deadline?

To apply, you must submit a letter of recommendation, legalised copies of your qualifications and grade lists, proof of English proficiency, and a 2-5 minute introductory video. The deadline for the September enrolment is July 1st, and for January enrolment, it is November 1st

Does Tio help students find housing?

Yes, for international students who require a visa, Tio guarantees housing assistance for the full duration of your programme. This service is included in the package fee, ensuring a smooth and comfortable start to your time in Groningen

What is the location of the campus in Groningen?

The Tio Groningen campus is located right in the city center at Phebensstraat 1, 9711 BL Groningen, just a short walk from the central station

Who applies for the residence permit for me?

Usually, Tio will apply for the entry visa (MVV) and residence permit (VVR) on your behalf. The university will start the application procedure once the required fees have been received .

Can I stay in the Netherlands after graduation to find a job?

While this specific FAQ isn't detailed on the official Tio site, general Dutch regulations apply. After graduation, you may be eligible for a one-year "search year" (zoekjaar) residence permit to find a job as a highly skilled migrant. It is important to maintain sufficient academic progress (at least 50% of credits each year) during your studies to be eligible for permit extensions .
