The university was established after the merger of Kent Institute of Art and Design and Surrey Institute of Art and Design to form University College for the Creative Arts at Canterbury, Epsom, Farnham, Maidstone and Rochester in 2005. It was conferred university status in 2008 and adopted its present name and has ever since grown to enrol over 5900 students across all its campuses.
