On November 6, 1874, the University of Adelaide was founded with a £20,000 grant from grazier and copper miner Walter Watson Hughes, as well as support and donations from Thomas Elder.

University of Adelaide Campuses

The University of Adelaide's main campus is located on North Terrace. The Art Gallery of South Australia, the State Library of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, and the University of South Australia's "City East" campus all border it. The North Terrace campus is home to the vast majority of the university's students and staff, as well as the majority of its courses and schools. The university's central administration and the main library, the Barr Smith Library, are both on this campus.

The University of Adelaide's main library, the Barr Smith Library, is located in the heart of the North Terrace campus. Rare Books and Special Collections, as well as University Archives and Recordkeeping, are housed in the library. It also houses extensive collections on Australian history, politics, and literature, as well as English literature, world wars, socialism, and fascism, women and gender studies, utopian literature, and food studies. The Music Collection, East Asian Collection, Yaitya Ngutupira, and Recreational Reading are all specialist collections. The vast and sumptuous Reading Room is located on level 2 of the library. The High Use Collection and study rooms on level 3 are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

University of Adelaide Medical services

If you have a student visa, having Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) insurance for the duration of your stay in Australia is a requirement. If you get sick or hurt, OSHC will pay for a lot of your medical bills. OSHC provides coverage equivalent to Medicare, Australia's public healthcare system. 1. Adelaide Scholarships International

The University of Adelaide provides Adelaide Scholarships International (ASI) to attract the attention of high quality overseas postgraduate students to areas of research strength in the University of Adelaide to support its research effort.

Eligibility Criteria/ Scholarship Guidelines

In order for one to be qualified, candidates are required to have successfully completed at least the equivalent of an Australian First Class Honors degree (this is a four-year degree with a major research project in the final year). All qualifying study programs must be successfully completed.  Scholarships will be given on academic merit and research potential. Extra-curricular achievements are not considered.

International candidates are expected to not hold a research qualification regarded by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to an Australian Research Doctorate degree or, if undertaking a Research Masters degree, not possess a research qualification approved by the University of Adelaide to be equivalent to or higher than an Australian Research Masters degree.

International candidates who haven’t given any evidence of their meeting the minimum English language proficiency requirements for direct entry by the scholarship closing date, or who have completed a Pre-Enrollment English Program to meet the entry conditions for the intended program of study, aren’t qualified.

It is required of the candidates to enroll in the University of Adelaide as ‘international students’ and are expected to maintain ‘international student’ status for the duration of their enrollment in the University. Citizens and Permanent Residents of Australia, and citizens of New Zealand are all not qualified.
