Founded in 1831, the University of Alabama is a public research university located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States of America. It is one of the oldest and largest universities in Alabama. The university has the only publicly supported law school in the state. Other programs unavailable in the state include doctoral programs in anthropology, communication and information sciences, metallurgical engineering, music and social work.

The university has two research centers: The Alabama International Trade Center and the Center for Advanced Public Safety. The students are granted free admission to all four museums located on campus, including the Alabama Museum of Natural History, and the Emerging Scholars program allows students to participate in research with faculty members.
