The UAMS Department of Public Safety (DPS) provides 24/7 patrols, a well-lit campus, and over 100 emergency blue-light phones. We offer a free safety escort service for anyone walking on campus after dark, and a comprehensive mass notification system sends instant alerts via text, email, and social media during any emergency.

Is the UAMS campus and surrounding area safe?

The UAMS main campus in Little Rock is a secure environment with a strong, visible security presence. We continuously work with city law enforcement to ensure safety in the immediate vicinity. Like any urban area, we encourage students to be aware of their surroundings and utilize the safety resources we provide, such as the escort service, especially at night.

What should I do in case of an emergency on campus?

In any life-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately and then call the UAMS DPS at (501) 686-7777. For non-emergencies, contact DPS for assistance. All students are encouraged to enroll in the emergency alert system and familiarize themselves with the emergency procedures outlined on the UAMS website for situations like severe weather or an active threat.
