University of Bahrain History
The University of Bahrain was established in the year 1986 with the merger of two Public Universities namely The Gulf Polytechnic and The University College of Arts, Science, and Education. The university has over 20,000 students and 2000 staff and has three campuses spread across the tiny island country.
University of Bahrain Programs, Courses, and Schools
The University of Bahrain offers 86 academic programs in total which includes 38 undergraduate degrees, 21 masters degrees, 5 doctorates, and 22 diplomas in subjects like Arts, Business Administration, Physical Education, Physiotherapy, Law, IT, Engineering, and Health Sciences.
The University of Bahrain also acts as a research hub in the tiny island nation for the academic community. The university allocates $1.1 million every year towards research projects in Sciences and Engineering.
University of Bahrain Campuses
The University of Bahrain has three campuses – Sakhir, Isa Town, and Manama. The primary campus is located in Sakhir and is spread over 103,657-metre square area. All the faculties except Health Sciences and Engineering are based at Sakhir campus. There are 66 buildings, 240 classrooms, 183 laboratories, and 3 fitness centers on campus. There are four libraries comprising of 250,000 books. These libraries also have access to British Library databases.
University of Bahrain’s Health Sciences College is based on 10,000 metre square campus adjacent to Salmaniya Medical Complex. The Engineering College is houses in a 10,000-metre square campus next to Bahrain Polytechnic.

The University of Bahrain is the only national university in the country that has been honoured as a member of the International Association of Universities and the well known The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
The University of Bahrain is consistently ranked as top 25 universities in the Arab region and top 4% of the universities worldwide. The university is also counted in top 2% universities of the world for the reputation of graduates amongst employers. The university also serves as a hub for conferences and seminars in the Gulf region.

The University of Bahrain is a leading university for research in Engineering and Sciences in the Gulf region. The faculty has published over 5000 research papers and books since its inception. Doctoral students have access to one of the best resources, papers, and laboratories in the Arab world. The acceptance rate is high and the tuition fee is subsidized for Bahraini nationals.
The University of Bahrain has also signed Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoU) with international institutions in Australia, New Zealand, India, the UK, USA, Europe, Japan, and China to facilitate study abroad and student exchange programs. The university also maintains dedicated language centers for students willing to travel to these countries and learn a new language.
