In the center of Upper City, in Piazza Vecchia, the University of Bergamo was initially founded. The institution has expanded over time, becoming a "cultural backbone" that connects the city and the larger region of Bergamo. The University of Bergamo is the beating heart of a city that is becoming more and more receptive to knowledge sharing, in part because of a map of its architectural, historical, and cultural history that demonstrates its status as a true "backbone of culture. An itinerary has been created that covers a history of ideas and growth initiatives looking to the future, from the restoration of the monumental complex of Sant'Agostino to the historic buildings of Piazza Rosate and Via Salvecchio, passing through the restoration projects of the former Baroni college, the former Montelungo barracks, and the former Enel tower.
