The University of Bern is located in the Bern, Switzerland and was established in 1834. It is managed and supported by the Canton of Bern. The University of Bern offers a broad choice of courses and programs in 8 faculties and150 colleges. There are approximately 17,904 students, which makes the University of Bern the third most notable University in Switzerland.

The University of Bern Programs and Courses 

The University of Bern has various faculties, which are Theology, Law, Business, Economics and Social Sciences, Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Humanities, Science and Human Sciences. The University has many courses in various subjects. The Physics Institute of the university contributed to the 1st flight to the moon, and it still contributes a lot to NASA and ESA space missions regularly. 

The University of Bern Campuses 

The University of Bern has many institutes, and clinics in Langgasse, the traditional university district abutting the city centre. The Faculty of Theology and various institutes in the Faculty of Humanities are now located in an old chocolate factory, and in 2005 the former women's hospital was refurbished to serve as a university centre for institutes in the Faculty of Law and Department of Economics. The vonRoll site, another old factory building, is in the process of being refurbished to house the Faculty of Human Sciences and the Department of Social Sciences.

Notable alumni of the university include Karl Barth, theologian and a twentieth-century Father of the Church, Carl Baudenbache, lawyer and President of the EFTA Court, Georg von Bekesy, biophysicist, Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 1961 and Walter Benjamin, philosopher and literary critic.
