The University of Central Florida was built in 1963 but opened as a Florida Technological University 1968. Florida Tech was renamed the University of Central Florida in 1978, as the school's academic emphasis extended beyond engineering and technology. Enrollment began with 1,948 students, and by 2022, it had grown to over 70,000 students from 157.

Housing facilities (Accommodation)

The University of Central Florida provides all kinds of housing services on campus. The UCF has 11,000 beds spread over eight separate housing areas on campus. The Libra, Apollo, Hercules, Nike, and Neptune communities all have residence hall-style suites. Rather than common restrooms, all residence hall suites feature bathrooms shared by two or three rooms. Academic Village (Nike and Hercules) neighborhoods, Towers at Knights Plaza, Lake Claire Courtyard Apartments Community, and North View provide apartment-style living. The Rosen College Apartments Community, located on the Rosen College of Hospitality Management campus, contains 400 bedrooms. First-year students occupy most on-campus housing; however, The Towers at Knights Plaza primarily contain upper-level students, student athletes, and honors students.

Student Safety

The University of Central Florida Police Department currently employs roughly 80 sworn officers who offer police services on the main and regional campuses and in many university-affiliated housing communities. Officers patrol the UCF campus 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and the department's communications center is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week via the non-emergency line, 407-823-5555, or 911 in an emergency. The University of Central Florida Police Department is here to keep the campus secure.

The University of Central Florida has thirteen colleges, each offering 101 baccalaureates, 88 masters, 31 doctoral, and one professional degree in Medicine. Furthermore, 75% of the faculty has a Ph.D. degree, and 46% of the faculty has tenure at the university. There are 41 different degree-granting departments and schools spread across the thirteen institutions. Students can find part-time work both on and off campus. On campus, paid research opportunities, teaching assistantships, and other positions are available. Students are subjected to some limitations.
