Florida Tech was renamed the University of Central Florida in 1978, as the school's academic emphasis extended beyond engineering and technology. Enrollment began with 1,948 students, and by 2022, it had grown to over 70,000 students from 157.

The fully equipped rooms of the University of Central Florida resident halls are comfortable for singles, doubles, triples, and quads. Dining facilities are included in the apartments. Students can live in a standard suite-style apartment for the academic year (fall and spring only) or a more premium apartment open all year (fall, spring, and summer semesters). On the Rosen campus, the housing departments also feature apartments for hospitality majors. A lounge room, housekeeping, study spaces, kitchen areas, parking, laundry, and a gym are some of the various amenities available to student residents.
