University of Central Oklahoma History

University of Central Oklahoma is located at Edmond, Oklahoma City. The university was founded in the year 1890 and it was the very first university to have been established In Oklahoma. It is a public university that has its accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Classes of the university started in the year 1891 with only few enrollments. But with time, the university grew and became the third largest university in the region that now has an enrollment of 14,000 students. The university initially started as Territorial Normal School of Oklahoma, then in the preceding years the university went through a lot of changes and was renamed again and again. Finally, in 1991, the university was named as University of Central Oklahoma. There are many buildings of the university that are registered in the National Register of Historic Places. Today the university offers 119 undergraduate programs and 80 graduate programs.
