University of Göttingen Background

The University of Göttingen was established in 1734 in Gottingen, Germany. It started conducting classes in 1737. This is the oldest university in Lower Saxony, and it has the most number of students enrolled. Many public figures have passed been associated with the university. Gottingen is also called the City of Science.

The university has had tie-ups with many independent and semi-independent institutions. There are 4 Max Planck Society to encourage science institutes in Gottingen. There are Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Experimental Medicine, Dynamics & Study of religious and ethnic diversity.

The main university complex and the library are built next to each other, and these are next to the inner city and makes the faculties of theology, social sciences, law, Economics/ business admin and linguistics. Mathematics and science faculties are established in the south of the city. There are also the faculties of anthropology and educational sciences and medical faculty established in the city.

The University of Gottingen is ranked among the best universities in Germany and the World. The university has 45 Nobel laureates associated with it. Some of the recent Nobel Laureates associated with the university are Thomas C. Südhof and Stefan Hell. Stefan hell has been a lecturer in the university since 20014. Thomas Sudhof is a professor at Stanford University. ?


University of Göttingen Notable Alumni

Notable Alumni of the university include the American banker J. P. Morgan, the seismologist Beno Gutenberg, the endocrinologist Hakaru Hashimoto, who studied there before World War I, and several notable Nobel laureates like Max Planck and Werner Heisenberg. Heinrich Heine, the famous German poet, studied law and was awarded the degree of Dr.iur.
