Step-by-Step Guide to Admission Requirements at University of Graz

University Entrance Qualification

You must hold a school-leaving certificate or equivalent that qualifies you for admission to university in your country (e.g. high school diploma, Abitur, A-levels).

For international applicants whose qualification is not automatically equivalent, you may be required to pass supplementary exams or be admitted via a university preparation programme (Vorstudienlehrgang / VGUH)

Language Proficiency

For degree programmes taught in German, proof of German language skills (often at C1 level) may be required. Applicants who do not yet have that may need to pass a German exam via the preparation programme.

Some programmes (especially those with English content) may require proof of English proficiency.

Additional / Programme-Specific Requirements

Some undergraduate programs have selection or admission procedures (e.g. tests, interviews) because they are capacity-limited.

If your school credentials are not sufficient (for example, incomplete schooling or missing subject requirements), you may need to take supplementary exams (e.g. in German, mathematics, science) as part of the preparation programme.

Application & Document Submission

You must apply online through the Uni Graz application portal, creating a basic account and uploading required documents.

Required documents typically include: copy of your valid ID/passport, school leaving certificate, transcripts, and translations/certifications if documents are not in German or English.

Proof of Admission & Enrollment

If accepted, you must send a signed “Application for Enrollment” and pay the ÖH student union fee or tuition (if applicable) to complete enrollment.
