Founded in 1847, the University of Iowa is the state’s flagship public research institution located in Iowa City. It is the first university in the state of Iowa as it was founded just 59 days after Iowa became a state.
The university comprises of 11 colleges undergraduate and graduate education, professional education: Carver College of Medicine, College of Dentistry, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Law, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, College of Nursing, College of Pharmacy, College of Public Health, Tippie College of Business, Graduate College and University College. The University of Iowa offers over 200 areas of study across 11 colleges, with renowned programs in social psychology, healthcare and law. It also has one of the largest and most highly praised medical centres in USA, and the famous Iowa Writers’ Workshop.
The university has a student population of more than 32,000 of which about 24,000 are enrolled at under graduate level, over 7,000 are enrolled at the graduate level and more than 1,300 are enrolled at the post graduate level. The University of Iowa has an acceptance rate of 81% and the student to faculty ratio of 15:1.
