University of Jyvaskyla History

The University of Jyvaskyla was established in 1863. It has its origins in the first Finnish-speaking Teacher Training College, founded in 1863 by Uno Cygnaeus. In the 1960s, the college started teaching and researching in the sciences and in 1967 was renamed the University of Jyvaskyla.

University of Jyvaskyla Programs, Courses, and Schools

The Jyvaskyla University offers a various range of study programmes for master's degree conducted in English, many of which are unique in Finland. Human Sciences, Natural Sciences, Health Sciences and, Sports, as well as Teacher education, are the university's areas of special expertise. The University offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, teacher training programmes and over 120 subject area disciplines. The university is currently divided into six faculties: Faculty of Information Technology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, Faculty of Education and Psychology, Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences, Jyvaskyla University School of Business and Economics.

University of Jyvaskyla Campuses

The Seminaarinmaki campus of the University of Jyvaskyla has often been said to the most beautiful in the country. It has also extended its ground with two new campus area. Its name stems from the mixing of various styles that are rigorously assembled over the course of centuries. There is also a wide range of sports facilities for students such as Hall of rhythmic sport, Gym, swimming pool, Hall of ball games, Hall of apparatus gymnastics, and Hall of gymnastics.
