University of Lorraine History

The University of Lorraine is a public university located in Nancy, France. It was established in the year 1572 by Charles III, Duke of Lorraine, and Charles, Cardinal of Lorraine. The University of Lorraine is a merger of Nancy University and Paul Verlaine University.

The University of Lorraine, offers programs in science, health, technology, engineering sciences, humanities, and social sciences, law, economics, management, arts, letters and languages; and more and more bridges between institutions and between disciplines. The University also offers training programs, undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs, doctorate programs for the students. The University also provides programs for disability students. The University has 8 faculties in a different department. The University has more than 3,722 academic staff, 3,081 administrative staff including 22,610 undergraduate students, 9,858 postgraduate students, and 1,736 doctorate students.

The University has a library which is the oldest universities in Nancy which include an academic library, housing 500,000 documents, and 250,000 books. The University has 6 libraries which are based in Metz, Thionville-Yutz, Sarreguemines and in Saint- Avold which has 280,000 books, 880 volumes, and 26,650 online journals.

The University of Lorraine obtained, on February 10, 2017, the "HR Excellence in Research" label from the European Commission after examining its European strategy for human resources for researchers.
