University of Louisiana Monroe History

University of Louisiana Monroe was founded in the year 1931 and was named as Ouachita Parish Junior College. It is a public university which is located in Monroe, Louisiana. Its name changed to Northeast Centre of Louisiana State University in 1934, to Northeast Junior College of Louisiana State University in 1949, to Northeast Louisiana State College in 1950, to Northeast Louisiana University in 1969, and finally it got its recognition as University of Louisiana Monroe in 1999. The university is the member of University of Louisiana System.

University of Louisiana Monroe is a renowned university for its academics. It offers undergraduate and graduate degrees through its four colleges namely college of arts, education and sciences, college of business and social sciences, college of health sciences, and college of pharmacy and one Graduate School. Various other programs offered are continuing education, scholars program, honors program, online and research programs.
