Mello, Ph.D. and his colleague Andrew Fire, Ph.D. of Stanford University was awarded Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their discoveries related to RNA interference (RNAi), a cellular process that offers the astounding potential for understanding and ultimately treating human disease in 2006. The researchers of the University have made massive advances in HIV, cancer, diabetes, infectious disease in understanding the molecular basis of the disease.
