The University of Notre Dame is a private Catholic research university in South Bend, IN. Founded in 1842 by members of the Congregation of Holy Cross, Notre Dame has become one of the nation’s top religiously affiliated schools, combining excellent academics with the Catholic Tradition.

Notre Dame always has been heavily residential, with about four in five undergraduate living on Campus. A Notre Dame education begins with 9 Schools and Colleges – School of Architecture, College of Arts and Letters, Graduate School, First Year of Studies, Mendoza College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Science, The Law School, Keough School of Global Affairs. The University has attracted more than 1200 scholars who are interested in teaching over 12000 students, who knew education is more than what is taught in classrooms and laboratories.

As an English major at Notre Dame you ll spend time in small classes reading, analyzing, and discussing fascinating literature. This course, which introduces students to college-level study of literature, is a concurrent prerequisite for the major (i. e. students cannot take a major elective unless they have completed this course or are currently enrolled in it).

The M.A. in Classics program is a rich program offering specialties in Greek and Roman literature, culture, history, linguistics, and archaeology, ranging from Archaic Greek through Late Antiquity. In conversation with programs in Early Christian Studies, the Medieval Institute, Literature, and Philosophy, the program aims to prepare students for further doctoral work in this range of studies.

The Graduate Program in English is a highly selective program in which students specialize in historical areas but also pursue interdisciplinary perspectives, with particular interest in critical theory, literature and science, literature and politics, postcolonial and ethnic studies, and gender studies.
