University of Patras History

The University of Patras also known as UPatras and Panepistimio Patron is a public university located in the city of Patras in Greece. It was established in 1964 by the Greek Government and is one of the largest universities in the country in the area. The university currently enrolls about 35,000 students and employs 1000 staff.  

University of Patras Programs, Courses, and Schools

The University of Patras comprises of five schools which are further divided into 24 departments offering a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees. The schools of the university are School of Engineering, School of Natural Sciences, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Health Sciences, and School of Economics and Business Administration.

The University of Patras offers programs in subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, and Computer Technology, Environmental and Natural Resources Management, Cultural Heritage Management, and New Technologies, Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics, Educational Sciences and Early Childhood Education, Business Administration of Food and Agricultural Enterprises, and Theatre Studies to name a few.

University of Patras Campuses

The University of Patras is located on a 600-acre campus located in the municipality of Rio near Patras, Greece. The university campus is one of the largest in the country occupying an area of 4.5 kilometers square. There is another site located at Agrinio.

University of Patras campus comprises of various facilities such as restaurants, kiosks, shops, botanical gardens, a Conference and Cultural Centre, sports grounds and courts, bank, bookstore, and stationery shops, cafeterias, and university halls of residence in addition to a hospital, 161 laboratories, and 17 clinics.

University of Patras Achievements

The University of Patras has been consistently ranked as a top university in Greece and is placed in the top 200 universities in the world for many subject areas. The university is also highly reputed for its research laboratories, clinics, and institutes.

The University of Patras received a positive evaluation in the evaluation of schools, subjects, and departments conducted by Hellenic Quality Assurance (HQA) , a Greek evaluation agency for education.

University of Patras USP

The University of Patras is one of the few universities in the country which participates in almost all research programs in Europe such as ESPRIT, BIOMED, EURAM, Copernicus, LRE, and various other programs carries out by Directorates of D6XVI, D6XII, and D6XIII.

The University of Patras is not very selective hence the acceptance rate of the university is high. The university also offers numerous student exchange programs through partnerships and ERASMUS and also provides grants to students in order to assist them with tuition fee.
