Key admission requirements for enrolling in a Bachelor’s (Licence) program at the University of Pau and Pays Adour (UPPA):
High school diploma (baccalauréat or equivalent)
You must have completed 12 years of secondary education (e.g. high school + diploma) with strong grades—typically a minimum of around 75?% in top systems or a GPA equivalent to 2.0 or higher—to qualify for a Licence program
Language proficiency in French (usually B2 level)
Since most undergraduate programs are taught in French, international students generally need to demonstrate a CEFR B2 level via tests like DELF or TCF-DAP. Some programs may require C1, depending on the field
Application through appropriate procedure
EU or French-equivalent students: apply via the national Parcoursup platform.
Non-EU students in “Études en France” countries: use Campus France (Études en France) procedure.
Other non-EU students: apply directly via UPPA’s Apoflux system
Submission of key documents
Required: certified academic transcripts, secondary school certificates, passport copy, CV, motivation letter; in some cases, letters of recommendation or a portfolio (e.g. architecture or arts) may be needed
Language interviews or tests
International applicants (especially non-French speakers) may need to complete a French proficiency exam like TCF-DAP during the process. Some programs also conduct interviews in French to assess readines
Proof of financial capacity and visa support
For non-EU students, you must show proof of sufficient funds (approx. €615/month or equivalent from a sponsor) to apply for a long-stay student visa. You will also need to pay the French campus life fee (CVEC) of around €103

On March 10, 2022, the French government formally confirmed UPPA’s University of Excellence status under its national “Investments for the Future” strategy. The I‑SITE E2S label became permanent, granting approximately €5 million annually to UPPA. That steady financial support enhanced the university’s long‑term planning, attracting high‑level faculty, launching international projects and infrastructure upgrades. UPPA consistently ranks among France’s top ten universities for Bachelor and DUT success rates, with employment rates exceeding 90% for master’s and engineering graduates and around 85% for PhDs. Its observatory shows that graduates from the class of 2015 maintained robust employment outcomes. That performance stems from effective academic programs, strong career support services and local industry ties—evidence that UPPA delivers results, not just degrees
By 2021, UPPA had expanded its international reach: over 250 UPPA students and 40 staff went abroad under Erasmus+ in a single year, and 102 European students came to Pau. The university now hosts around 15% foreign students from five continents, with new master’s programs offered in English since 2018.
